LIOO

The Project

Olive oil supply chain innovation workshop

The LIOO project was carried out at the headquarters of the Industrial Consortium for Economic Development of the Province of Rieti, which has adequate space granted for use to theUniversity of Tuscia. The headquarters of theUniversity of Tuscia in Rieti has also been moved to the same premises, with obvious synergies in terms of research and planning, and with the possibility of also developing new projects in the field ofhigher education and professional qualification.

The project stands as a landmark in the area, for the enhancement ofinnovation, technology transfer and the development of innovative ideas within the olive-oil supply chain, including through the creation of spin-offs, favored by the presence of the university campus and the related network of collaborations with entities, companies and institutional investors, stimulating the business system to use theresearch infrastructure.

LIOO was established with theaim of attracting qualified human capital from around the world for short and long periods, presenting the new center to the international community as a model of excellence ininnovation research andhigher education. Significant is theimpact onoilmarketing andexportactivity through the introduction of innovative traceability and certification systems, packaging and infotracing. The results of the various lines of research and experimentation make it possible to activate a shared system of know-how among the sector’s operators, capable of raising the technological level of the entire supply chain through the transfer of good practices in the production, harvesting and processing of raw material and derived products.

In general, intervention on the supply chain helps to curb the ongoing loss of employment in the sector and stimulate the creation of new jobs, not only directly within the olive-growing enterprises, but also within the common service infrastructure needed to support all stages of production, marketing and commercialization of new products, as well as the creation of new nutraceutical, cosmeceutical and cosmetic supply chains.
