Sustainable Development of Inner Areas
With reference to the transition to circular and sustainable models
Activities Carried Out
The research activity combines aspects of mountain tradition with an advanced technological system, turning mountain territories into a real laboratory for experimentation. This makes it possible to integrate bioeconomy principles with circular economy models, creating an innovative approach that respects natural resources and enhances their value.
Special attention is paid to forest management; indeed, recent years have witnessed the development of so-called ecosystem services. These services make it possible to make the most of the opportunities and benefits of forests, adopting a forward-looking perspective and taking into account ongoing climate, demographic, social and economic changes.
Research activities focus on the enhancement of the forest as a multifunctional system capable of ensuring the production, conservation and purification of water. In this regard, the importance of forests and riparian tree vegetation in protecting the land fromaccelerated erosion and hydrogeological disruption is recognized. All of this is closely related to the silvicultural treatments applied, which can amplify the benefits of such ecosystems to the overall health and well-being of the environment and the people living in it.
